2018 Update #8
Traffic Update: Main Street Bridge Maintenance Scheduled for Thursday AM
Just a quick heads up that a VTrans bridge maintenance crew will be in town Thursday morning to re-secure a minor connecting part on the Main Street temporary bridge.
We expect them to arrive at about 9:30 AM and for the work to take about half an hour.
During this time, only one lane of the bridge will be open. A flagger will direct traffic.
Main Street will remain open throughout. It will just take a little longer to get through town while the work is taking place.
Thanks to an eagle-eyed observer at the National Bank who alerted us to the loose connection on the bridge. The piece in question is a spacer and one of a series of structures that ties the modular components together and is not a safety concern.
VTrans resident engineer Tim Pockette and Middlebury Department of Public Works Director of Operations Bill Kernan were both at the bridge evaluating the situation within half an hour of my receiving a phone call from our friend at the Bank.
While they are in town, the VTrans bridge maintenance crew will check and tighten as needed all nut-and-bolt connections on the bridge.
That’s all for today. See you downtown.
Please keep your comments and questions coming. Send me an email at jgish@townofmiddlebury.org and I’ll try to cover it in my next update.
